Photographer Focus: Henri Cartier-Bresson
6th meeting - Photographer Focus
News:
Last night we shared some of our favourite forums, websites and resources on the web. Justin introduced Camera Labs, which has good reviews on the latest gear and interesting video tours.
I'm a frequent lurker at the Photography on the Net forums (POTN) for Canon digital enthusiasts. There are almost 200,000 members including many professional photographers who frequent the forums regularly. There is a ton of great information and resources there so check it out.
Photographer Focus: Henri Cartier-Bresson
We had the privilege of studying a bit about the photography and philosophy of Henry Cartier-Bresson, a master of candid "street" photography. We were amazed at his perfect timing and meticulous attention to composition which all make up for what Cartier-Bresson called "the decisive moment".
After analyzing a few of Henri Cartier-Bresson's photographs, we came to better appreciate photography as an art and admired him for his impeccable timing.
You can view his work here: Magnum Photos
Read an article about him here: New York Times article
We also discussed what street photography entails and the perils of it as well. Discussion about model releases, photographer's right and responsibilities surfaced as well. Since then I have found an interesting thread on POTN about this. It's always good to be aware of your boundaries.
Reminders:
Submit your LOW LIGHT photos for the showcase coming up next week. Send them in by Monday night.
The week after the showcase, we will be doing a hands on workshop/learning session with flash photography. Bring your cameras and flashes if you have any and come and join the fun!
